South African hotels will soon throw away keys, key cards and all the above as they move towards software which allows guests to enter their rooms using Bluetooth or “Near Field Communication” and their smart phones. This is according to Price Water House Coopers Hospitality and Gaming Industry which said that their business models are undergoing changes in the presence of an ever changing technology landscape.
The system will work with a downloadable application that will allow guests to do a bit more than just open the door. Within the app they will add functionality to allow you to book a room, pay and check in online. Further, the app will allow you to control devices inside your room like the TV, Curtains or air conditioner all while booking that Spa Treatment or scrolling through the room service menu.
