With technology growing so fast, every manufacturer is faced with the challenge of keeping up. Hewlett Packard, a company that has been around since 1939, has been a pioneer in technology development. Like most, we remember them as bringing us the first financial calculators and colour printers.
However, once the new millennium hit, the HP Pavilion Laptop and the HP pocket computers caused a surge in the company’s growth. Almost everyone had one of them; they were reliable and easy to use. HP has just done it again. We were fortunate enough to receive a review unit of their latest product, the HP “Envy X2” two in one laptop.
Ever since the release of windows 8 there have been various 2 in 1 machines that have come out, combining a full laptop and a tablet PC. HP’s contender in this market is the “Envy X2”. This sleek brushed aluminium clad laptop does not aim to disappoint. Opening up the laptop for the first time is quite spectacular as you are greeted by an 11.6 inch 1366×768 resolution full touch screen. The unit runs Windows 8 (32 bit) with an Intel Atom 1.8 gigahertz processor and 2 gigabytes of RAM. In terms of built in memory, it comes standard with a 64 gigabyte solid state hard drive.
The next step is really impressive. That 11.6 inch screen can be removed from the keyboard section and used as a tablet PC. Detachment and attachment of the tablet from the keyboard base has been made simple by using a simple mechanism that is quite full proof.
So where is then battery then? Well, the Envy X2 has two battery packs, one in the screen section and one in the keyboard base; we got close to 11 hours of standard use on one full charge. The unit also packs “Beats” audio and an 8 megapixel camera.
So, if you looking for something that offers you a Tablet and a laptop PC experience, look no further. Prices on these laptops start at R9,999. Not bad for the quality and performance that you will get, worth every penny.
